CHICAGO – The Lakeland University women's basketball team wrapped up its regular season with a win Wednesday night and now will wait to see if its season will continue into the postseason.
The Muskies defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 93-45, finishing their regular schedule with an 11-14 overall record and at 11-9 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland still has a chance to be the sixth and final team to qualify for the NACC Tournament, but won't know its fate until Saturday's final day of conference play.
The Muskies currently six one-half game behind Aurora University (11-8 in conference) in the standings, and now are relying on help from Concordia Chicago and Concordia Wisconsin in their hopes of extending their season. If Concordia Chicago defeats Aurora Saturday, then Lakeland will finish in a tie with Aurora and the tiebreak will come down to the result of the Benedictine-Concordia Wisconsin game that day. If CUW wins, then the Muskies are the sixth seed; if Benedictine wins, then Aurora will clinch the sixth seed and leave Lakeland just outside the field for the tournament. Whichever team receives the No. 6 seed will travel to face third-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College in a first round game next Wednesday.
