Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Muskies break loose from Cougars late to win for fourth time in last five

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Lakeland University men's basketball team made a run late and shook free from Concordia University Chicago for a 92-76 win Tuesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Muskies broke open a close game in the final eight minutes to win for the fourth time in five games and complete a sweep of the Cougars this season. Lakeland improved to 10-10 overall on the season and moved to 8-7 in the NACC.

A quick spurt of eight straight points in a span of 1 minute, 13 seconds was enough to make the difference in a game that was exceptionally close most of the way. The contest featured 25 ties and eight lead changes, but with the score tied at 65-65 with less than eight minutes to play, the Muskies scored the next eight points. Zach Hasenstein (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) made two free throws and then a three-pointer, and Jequan Pegeese (Jr.-Beloit, Wis.) also made a three for a 73-65 lead with 6:25 left.

Concordia (7-13 overall, 6-9 NACC) never got closer than six points again the rest of the way, the last time coming after a three-pointer by Neil O'Donnell making the score 79-73 with 4:05 left. Lakeland would finish the game by scoring 13 straight points, leading by 19 points in the final minute before a final Cougars basket.

The Muskies shot 42.6% for the game (29 of 68) and made 16 of 36 from three-point range (44.4%). Hasenstein scored 22 points, including 15 in the second half, and added eight rebounds. Eric Jordan (Fr.-Chicago, Ill.) also scored 15 points off the bench, Carlos Campos (Sr.-Janesville, Wis.) added 13 points and Trenton Nickel (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) scored 12 points.

Raushaun Amos scored a game-high 23 for Concordia, which shot 40.5% (30 of 74). Lakeland also outrebounded the Cougars 48-38, the Muskies' biggest plus rebound margin in a game on the season.

Lakeland is home again Saturday when it welcomes Concordia University Wisconsin for a 2 p.m. start at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
