Series history:Â Wisconsin Lutheran leads 20-14-1
Wisconsin Lutheran is one of the Muskies' most-played opponents, and this marks the 36th meeting all-time between the two schools, whose history dates back to their days together in the Lake Michigan Conference. WLC has won the last five meetings, including two wins in the spring in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's abbreviated 2020-21 season. The Warriors defeated Lakeland 3-1 at Taylor Field on March 24 and then rolled to a 6-0 win in Milwaukee April 18 in the teams' most recent matchup, as Miriam Carreno, Gabriella Metten and Maggie Stebbins all scored two goals each. The Muskies last defeated Wisconsin Lutheran more than five years ago with a 3-0 win at home on Sept. 28, 2016. Karisa Rowland posted the shutout in goal in that match, stopping seven shots for her first collegiate shutout.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Benedictine 4-1 Saturday
The Muskies played a second straight game under unusual weather conditions but couldn't keep up as the Eagles scored three times in the second half.
Hope Cerney scored the Lakeland goal with a penalty kick to bring the Fish within 3-1 but Benedictine added a final goal in a game that was delayed nearly two hours at halftime due to lightning in the Chicago area. The Muskies were unable to win a second straight game after defeating Concordia Chicago 1-0 a week ago at Taylor Field in a very heavy fog in the second half, when Marlen Reyes scored Lakeland's lone goal.
Wisconsin Lutheran last time out: Defeated Finlandia 2-0 Sunday
The Warriors scored twice in the first half and dominated possession against the Lions to earn their second win of the season and snap a nine-game losing streak. Miriam Carreno and Katie Wasiak scored for WLC, which outshot Finlandia 23-2 and did not allow a shot on goal.
About the Warriors: Wisconsin Lutheran opened the season with a 9-0 win over Mount Mary but then lost nine straight by a combined score of 35-4. WLC did post a pair of one-goal losses in that streak, including a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Lawrence in early September plus a recent 2-1 loss to NACC foe Edgewood, and the Warriors also received a win on their conference ledger with a forfeit against Alverno that officially goes as a no-contest and does not affect their overall record. Lutheran finished 3-5 in the NACC's spring season, defeating Lakeland twice plus Alverno once.
Rich steps up in goal: Lakeland's
Haley Rich has started five of the team's last six matches in goal and has fared well. She has risen to ninth in the NACC in save percentage even as she has faced the second-most shots of any goalkeeper in the league. Rich is second among NACC goalkeepers with 68 saves despite starting just six games and playing in goal seven of ten games, and she also recorded her first career shutout last week in the Fog Bowl win over Concordia Chicago.
