Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Misheck serves seven aces as Lakeland sweeps Wisconsin Lutheran

Matt Misheck (Jr.-Oak Forest, Ill.) served seven aces to tie a school single-match record and the Lakeland University men's volleyball team cruised past Wisconsin Lutheran College in three sets Friday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies rolled to a 25-13, 25-21, 25-12 win for their third victory of the season and in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. Lakeland improved to 3-8 overall and 3-7 in the NACC after defeating the Warriors for the second time this season.

Misheck's seven service aces tied the Muskies varsity single-match record set by teammate Ben Busalacchi earlier this season in the first meeting with WLC. Lakeland finished with 13 aces as a team and also was efficient on the attack against the first-year Wisconsin Lutheran program.

The Muskies hit .319 for the match with 32 kills and 10 errors in 69 attempts. Lakeland trailed only briefly three times early in the first set, and after Busalacchi's ace for a 4-3 lead in the first the Muskies never trailed or were as much as tied again.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-11 overall, 0-10 NACC) made its closest run at winning a set in the second, chipping an early eight-point deficit down to three at 22-19 late. The teams alternated points the rest of the set, though, and Colin Kenney (Fr.-Shorewood, Wis.) closed it out with a kill for a 2-0 match lead for Lakeland.

Busalacchi finished with 11 kills to lead the Muskies, with Misheck adding seven kills without an error in 13 swings (.538 hitting percentage). Kenney added five kills and three aces, while Martin Carrillo (So.-Mundelein, Ill.) handled setting duties and finished with 23 assists plus three kills. Tim Matijevic (Fr.-Palatine, Ill.) also added seven digs and four kills.

Logan Gryzwa led Wisconsin Lutheran with seven kills and Logan Ascher paced the Warriors with six digs. WLC finished hitting .015 with 16 kills and 15 errors in 66 attacks.

Lakeland is back on the court Thursday when it hosts UC Santa Cruz for a matinee match at noon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
