MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College scored twice in the early going and the Lakeland University women's soccer team was defeated 6-0 in its final match of the 2020-21 season.
The Warriors wrapped up a sweep of the teams' Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference North Division series and the Muskies closed their abbreviated season with a 2-6 record overall and in the NACC North. WLC also finished its season with records of 3-5 overall and in conference.
Wisconsin Lutheran scored its first goal just 8 minutes, 11 seconds into the match when Maggie Stebbins deposited a rebound into the back of the net. The Warriors scored again less than three minutes later with a goal by Miriam Carreno.
The Muskies played a man down for the entire second half after a red card with nine seconds left in the first half, and WLC capitalized with three goals between the 60th and 65th minutes. Carreno and Stebbins added goals, and Gabriella Metten also added the first of two second half goals, also scoring a final tally in the 79th minute.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished with a 23-4 advantage in shot attempts, including a 15-2 margin in shots on goal.
Lilli Schlosser (
Fr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) led Lakeland with two shot attempts and
Alani Chairez (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Rachel Wilson (
Sr.-Gilbert, Ariz.) also added shots.
Erin Tomlinson (
Jr.-Madison, Wis.) made nine saves in goal for the Muskies. The match was the final one for the team's two seniors, Wilson and
Amanda Buckler (
Sheridan, Wyo.).
