Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pioneers shut out Muskies to kick off women’s soccer season

Four different players scored goals for Carroll University and the Lakeland University women's soccer team began its 2021 season with a 4-0 loss Wednesday night at Carroll's Schneider Stadium.

The Pioneers scored twice in each half in the season opener for both teams. Carroll also held possession most of the way and outshot Lakeland 23-4 for the match.

The Pioneers scored first in the 21st minute on a tally by Elizabeth Weinberg, and Grace Tumulty scored unassisted at 38 minutes, 5 seconds of the match for a 2-0 lead. Carroll then added a third goal less than three minutes into the second half with Simone Lippmann scoring off the second assist of the night by Maddie Belo.

The score remained that way much of the rest of the way before Carroll's Olivia Warneke added a final goal with 2:45 left in the match with an assist from Abby Paglia.

The Muskies finished the match with two shots on goal. Virginia Perez (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) carried the ball from midfield deep into the Carroll end and put a shot on net in the 31st minute stopped by Rachel Jenewein, and fellow freshman Roza Bonner (Williamston, Mich.) struck a free kick stopped by Jenewein just inside the right post in the 70th minute.

Erin Tomlinson (Sr.-Madison, Wis.) made nine saves in goal for Lakeland. Bonner led the Muskies with two shot attempts and Hanna Brouch (Fr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) also added one shot attempt.

Lakeland now gets ready for its home opener Friday when it welcomes Lawrence University for a 1 p.m. start at Taylor Field.
