Kelly Swope (
So.-Heyworth, Ill.) was named to the all-tournament team as the Lakeland University women's volleyball team split two matches but won its final one at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Polito's Classic Saturday at the Kolf Sports Center.
The Muskies lost their first match in five sets, falling to UW-Stout 25-23, 18-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-6 before bouncing back to sweep Lake Forest (Ill.) College 25-20, 25-16, 25-15. Lakeland is now 1-5 overall heading into its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener Wednesday night at home against Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Swope blew away her career high with 14 kills in the first match against UW-Stout as she just missed a triple-double with 10 digs and nine assists plus six blocks. She also added seven kills plus nine assists and five digs in the Muskies' win over Lake Forest, and finished the day hitting .372 over the two matches.
S'Niya Gantt (
Fr.-Dallas, Texas) also added 12 kills against Stout, but the Muskies hit at a low rate overall against the Blue Devils, with 47 kills and 33 errors for a .083 hitting percentage.
Lakeland was much better against Lake Forest, hitting an efficient .337 with 45 kills and just 12 errors in 98 attacks.
Susana Stevens (
Fr.-Las Cruces, N.M.) led the Muskies with 13 kills and a .478 hitting percentage, and Lakeland also added seven service aces, including four from sophomore
Hailey DeGrave (
Sturgeon Bay, Wis.).
Sydney Pingitore (
Sr.-Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 47 digs over the two matches, including 32 in the five-set marathon with UW-Stout.
Roseily Carrasquillo (
Fr.-Yabucoa, Puerto Rico) also finished with 35 assists on the day, including 21 against Lake Forest, and
Katie Metzler (
So.-Kewaunee, Wis.) added seven blocks on the day, including five against UW-Stout.
