Brouch finds the net for fifth of season as Muskies fall to Eagles 3-1

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Hanna Brouch (So.-Kaukauna, Wis.) scored her fourth goal of the season in the Lakeland University women's soccer team's 3-1 loss to Benedictine University Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.

Brouch scored in her fourth different match of the season and the Muskies scored for the first time in five matches before dropping to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Benedictine improved to 2-7-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the NACC.

The visiting Eagles did much of their work in the first half, when all four of the match's goals were scored. Kailyn Knudson scored in the 19th minute off an assist from Olivia McPherson, and McPherson then added a goal of her own with a heavy shot from a sharp angle on the left side from outside the keepers' area that swished inside the top right corner of the net.

The Muskies cut their deficit in half just before halftime on a set play. Jenna Caterino (So.-Stanton, Mich.) and
Brouch both lined up for a free kick from straight in front of the goal from 16 yards out, and Brouch ran through second and hit a shot inside the upper right corner to cut Benedictine's lead in half.

The Eagles would dampen the impact of that goal just before halftime, though, with Victoria Alvarado scoring with an assist from Stephanie Hernandez for a 3-1 lead at the break. The score stayed that way for the entire second half, with Benedictine controlling possession and finishing with a 13-2 advantage in shots in the match.

Haley Rich (Sr.-West Chicago, Ill.) made nine saves in goal for the Muskies. Brouch attempted both Lakeland shots, while Alvarado and Anna Dudziak both attempted four shots each for the Eagles.

Lakeland is back on the road Wednesday when it travels to face Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. in Wauwatosa.
