Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Muskies finally break loose, drill Eagles for first NACC win

VERONA, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's soccer team released a conference season's worth of frustrations on Edgewood College Wednesday night with a 7-0 victory on the road for its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season.

Dirk Dell Adema (Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led a group of six different players scoring goals and a total of ten different players posted at least one goal or one assist. The Muskies posted their biggest win of the season and their largest margin of victory in nearly 13 years, since a 9-0 win over Finlandia (Mich.) University Oct. 18, 2009.

Lakeland (3-7-3 overall, 1-7-1 NACC) has faced plenty of struggles in the NACC this season, including most recently falling at Rockford University 2-1 on Saturday when the Regents scored the winning goal with 95 seconds left in the match. The Muskies finally broke out against the Eagles (1-11-1 overall, 1-7 NACC), though it took nearly a half to assert control.

The match was still scoreless in the 37th minute until the Muskies scored with Michecadet Gethand (Jr.-Jackson, Wis.) tallying for the second straight match with an assist from Collin McGuire (Fr.-Crestwood, Ill.). Lakeland's lead would double just 27 seconds later, though, with Suleiman Haji (Jr.-Mankato, Minn.) scoring with an assist from Michael Barragan (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.).

Lakeland led 2-0 at halftime despite being outshot 6-5 in the first half. The Muskies would add a third goal in the 53rd minute from Barragan with an assist from Kidus Samson (Jr.-San Francisco, Calif.), and then would add four more goals in the final 23 minutes.

Dell Adema scored twice, including his first goal at 67:04 of the match assisted on by Brock Romanoski (Fr.-Kohler, Wis.) and his second in the 78th minute. Westin Hoffman (Fr.-Appleton, Wis.) assisted Dell Adema's second goal, and also scored his first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute with Haji assisting. The Muskies closed the scoring with 3:48 left in the match when Bryan Tovar (So.-Lake in the Hills, Ill.) scored his first collegiate goal with an assist from Brendan Perry (So.-New Baltimore, Mich.).

Lakeland finished outshooting Edgewood 23-13 for the match, including 18-7 in the second half. Carson Galla (Jr.-Deerfield, Wis.) made four saves for his first victory of the season in goal.

The Muskies next will play their final non-conference game of the season when they host Grinnell (Iowa) College at noon Sunday at Taylor Field.
