Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Close game turns late as Marian pulls away to top Lakeland men’s soccer

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Isak Olsson scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute for Marian University and the Lakeland University men's soccer team came up short in a 4-1 loss on the road Wednesday night at Marian's Smith Field.

A close game turned sour in the final 20 minutes for the Muskies as the Sabres scored three unanswered goals late. Lakeland dropped to 3-9-3 overall and is now 1-8-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Muskies were right with Marian (8-6-2 overall, 6-3-2 NACC) most of the way, trailing by a goal for a time but pulling into a tie by halftime and in a deadlock deep into the second half. The Sabres scored the opener in the 19th minute on a free kick by Drew Cowden, but Lakeland answered with 8 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first half when Dirk Dell Adema (Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) knocked his fourth goal of the season with an assist from Jordan Davis-Troller (Fr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) to knot the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied until 19:39 remained in the match, when Olsson headed in a corner kick by Logan Holevas to put Marian back ahead. The floodgates would open for the Sabres over the next 8 1/2 minutes with two more goals, as Giuliano Corazzina scored on a breakaway in the 76th minute and Olsson scored his second of the night at 78:47 of the match for the game's final goal.

Marian outshot Lakeland 27-11, including a 16-5 margin in the second half. The Muskies posted an 8-7 edge in corner kicks. Davis-Troller and Dell Adema led the Muskies with three shot attempts each. Carson Galla (Jr.-Deerfield, Wis.) made nine saves in goal.

The Muskies are on the road again Saturday when they travel to face Illinois Institute of Technology at 3:30 p.m. in Chicago.
