So.-Las Cruces, N.M.),
Brelynn Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) and
Isabella Westerholm (
So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) combined for 41 kills and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team closed its regular season and now sets its sights on the postseason after a four-set win over Loras (Iowa) College in a non-conference match Saturday.
The Muskies were successful in their trip across state into Iowa, defeating the Duhawks 25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21. Lakeland is now 16-13 overall and clinched an overall winning record for the season, and now gets ready to take on St. Norbert College in the first round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament Tuesday night.
Stevens finished with 16 kills, Scoles delivered 14 kills and Westerholm added 11 kills with just one error in 18 attacks (.556 hitting percentage). The trio helped the Muskies hit .237 for the match with 57 kills and 19 errors, including a red-hot start in the first two sets.
Lakeland hit .302 in the first set, pulling ahead of a competitive game late scoring seven of the final 10 points, and then hit .412 with 19 kills in the second set. The Muskies cooled off after that and Loras won the third set, but Lakeland responded in the fourth with a big run of eight straight points started in the middle of the set to take control.
Scoles posted a big double-double with 16 digs to go with her 14 kills.
Maeve Sullivan (
Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) finished with 22 digs and
Jaylin Urrutia (
Fr.-San Antonio, Texas) set a career high for the second straight match with 15 digs and added a team-best three service aces.
Emily Duchow (
Sr.-Potter, Wis.) posted 39 assists and
Kelly Swope (
Jr.-Heyworth, Ill.) added eight kills and 13 digs.
Katie Metzler (
Jr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) also finished with seven kills plus five block assists.
James Keefe led Loras (8-19 overall) with 13 kills and added 17 digs. Sam Stoffregen added 21 digs and Sara Hoskins finished with 41 assists and 12 digs for the Duhawks, members of the American Rivers Conference (formerly Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
