FOND DU LAC – A non-conference matchup between Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes went to Marian University, which swept the Lakeland University men's volleyball team in three sets Wednesday night at Sadoff Gymnasium.

The Sabres prevailed 25-18, 25-16, 28-26 to continue their strong start to the season, improving to 15-3 overall. The Muskies dropped to 3-4 overall with their third consecutive loss.

The Sabres controlled the first two sets, building a solid lead early in both as Lakeland hit a negative percentage in both sets, with a combined 13 kills and 16 attack errors. Lakeland came alive in a far more competitive third set, which included 13 ties and seven lead changes.

The Muskies led 7-3 early in the third before Marian rebounded to go ahead 12-11 after an ace by Derek Wills. The back and forth in the set eventually saw Lakeland scored four straight points to take a 19-17 lead, but it was Marian getting to match point at 24-23 after a kill by Aaron Velazco.

Matt Misheck (Sr.-Oak Forest, Ill.) answered with a kill, and Martin Carrillo (Jr.-Mundelein, Ill.) served an ace to get the Muskies to the doorstep of a set win at 25-24. The Sabres answered with two straight points, and then after a Ben Busalacchi (So.-Muskego, Wis.) kill scored the final two to close out the match.

Colin Kenney (So.-Shorewood, Wis.) led Lakeland with eight kills, Busalacchi and Misheck posted six kills each and Cameron Ekum (Sr.-Wales, Wis.) added 16 assists and 10 digs. The Muskies hit .000 for the match with 23 kills and 23 errors in 76 swings.

Liam Skinner led Marian with seven kills. The Sabres hit .185 with 30 kills and 15 errors in 81 attacks.
