PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The firepower of Marian University proved too much to handle for the Lakeland University men's volleyball team in a three-set loss Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Sabres completed a 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 sweep to add another win to their school-record total, clinching their 20th win of the season. Lakeland dropped to 6-7 overall and saw its brief three-match losing streak snapped while also dropping to 3-5 in the NACC.

Marian hit .329 for the match with 35 kills and 11 errors in 73 attacks, the third-highest mark for a Muskies opponent this season. The Sabres were especially efficient in the first and second sets, hitting .476 in the opener and .345 in the second set in building a quick 2-0 lead in the match.

Lakeland was unable to match the guests' strong attack, hitting .100 for the match with 27 kills and 19 errors in 80 swings. The Muskies improved after hitting a negative mark of -.036 in the first set but spent a good share of the match playing from behind in falling to Marian for the second time this season.

The Sabres led almost the entire first set and pulled away late, finishing the set on an 11-3 run. Lakeland played better for the first half of a second set that included 11 ties and five lead changes, leading as late as 13-12 after a kill by Matt Misheck (Sr.-Oak Forest, Ill.). Marian would take control, though, by scoring the next five points, with a kill by Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes putting the Sabres up 17-13. The Muskies would get no closer than two points the rest of the set.

Lakeland held the upper hand for the first half of the third set and led by as much as five at 13-8 after a Marian attack error. Ben Busalacchi (So.-Muskego, Wis.) registered four of his seven kills for the match in the first part of the set, but the Sabres came back soon after with a 6-0 run. A kill by Derek Wills put Marian up 16-14, and the Muskies never led again.

Misheck finished with nine kills to lead Lakeland and Martin Carrillo (Jr.-Mundelein, Ill.) added a team-high eight digs. Cameron Ekum (Sr.-Wales, Wis.) finished with 18 assists and six digs.

Cam Muller paced Marian with 12 kills and Wills added 11 kills. Carzell Combs also finished with eight digs.

Lakeland is in action again Friday when it travels to face Benedictine University at 7 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
