KOHLER, Wis. –
Nick Larson (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) was a double-winner for the Lakeland University men's tennis team as it returned to action falling to St. Norbert College 7-2 to open its Northern Athletics Collegiate schedule at Sports Core.
Larson earned a convincing win at Number 1 singles, taking down St. Norbert's Michael Stanaszak 6-1, 6-3 for his third win of the season. He also teamed up with
Jacob Larson (
Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) at No. 1 doubles, and the duo defeated Stanaszak and Joe Pellechia 8-4 for the Muskies' second win of the dual.
Lakeland (1-6 overall, 0-1 NACC) wasn't far from taking three more wins to reverse the dual result. The Muskies lost a pair of three-set matches in singles play, including
Jacob Larson against Porter Beilfuss at No. 2. Larson won the first set in a tiebreaker before Beilfuss came back for a 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Alessandro Bianchi (
Jr.-Venice, Italy) also came close before falling in three sets at No. 6 singles against Bryce Bertler. Bianchi won the second set to even the match before Bertler earned a break in the third set and went on to win 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Luke Roe (
Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) and
Evan Vorpahl (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) had Lakeland's best result in defeat in doubles, falling to David Vandenberg and Charlie Vandermillen 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Lakeland is home again Sunday when it faces Illinois Institute of Technology at 9 a.m. at Sports Core.
