Dominican shows muscle again, defeats Lakeland 4-0

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Dominican University scored all of its goals in the first half and continued its mastery of the Lakeland University men's soccer team with a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The Stars made the Muskies pay for seemingly every mistake in the first half and continued to dominate the series with Lakeland. The longtime Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference power won the 20th straight matchup between the two teams and dropped the Muskies to 2-2-2 overall and 0-2 in NACC play.

Dominican (5-0-1 overall, 2-0 NACC) scored its first goal in the 13th minute and then pulled away with three goals in the half's final 16 minutes, including a score with just 26 seconds left in the half.

John Cronnolly came in as one of the leading scorers in the NACC, and the Stars forward scored two goals and added an assist, giving him a conference-best eight goals. His second goal at 38 minutes, 39 seconds of the match came off a solo effort, beating two Lakeland defenders before firing across and inside the left post for a 3-0 lead.

The Muskies had several chances especially in the first half. Michecadet Gethand (Jr.-Jackson, Wis.) got off five shots in the match, including three in the first half. He fired high on an attempt in the 23rd minute and was wide in the 29th minute.

The second half saw both teams substitute freely throughout, and neither threatened seriously. Carson Galla (Jr.-Deerfield, Wis.) made one save in the second 45 minutes, following Ben Taylor (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.), who made two saves in the first half.

Dominican finished with a 12-8 advantage in shot attempts, including 9-4 in the first half. The Stars also posted a 7-3 lead in shots on goal.

The Muskies face another of the NACC's top teams in their next match Wednesday when they travel to take on Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday at 7 p.m.
