PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Dominican University controlled play much of the way but the Lakeland University women's soccer team hung tough most of the way before falling 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
The Muskies trailed the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champions 3-0 after 72 minutes before the Stars tacked on three goals late, including a penalty kick and a goal in the game's final second. Lakeland dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in conference while Dominican improved to 3-2-2 overall and 2-0 in the NACC.
Dominican took an early lead when Regan Coxon centered a pass to Grace Larson who scored 7 minutes, 48 seconds into the match. The Stars added two goals 98 seconds apart near the midway point of the first half, with Coxon heading in a corner kick and Sarah Borsellino also scoring in the 23rd minute for a 3-0 lead.
The Muskies would keep it a three-goal game deep into the second half with stubborn defense and good work by goalkeeper
Haley Rich (
Sr.-West Chicago, Ill.). Rich made 13 saves in the match, including ten in the first half, and also stopped a penalty kick late in the second half.
Dominican would add three goals in the final 18 minutes, including a penalty kick in the 73rd minute by Lexie Canarelli.
