KOHLER, Wis. – Freshman
Olivia Heling (
West Bend, Wis.) made a strong debut at Number 1 singles as the Lakeland University women's tennis team opened its season Saturday falling to Lawrence University 8-1 at Sports Core.
Heling came back for a three-set win over Lawrence's Margot Connor, who won the first set before Heling rallied to take the second set. She then won the third set tiebreaker for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory in her first collegiate match.
Heling provided the highlight for a young Muskies team that featured freshmen playing at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. After Heling, the best result in singles play came from
Baylee Babcock (
Jr.-Mauston, Wis.) at No. 4 singles, where she fell 6-3, 6-1 to Chloe Lamb.
Kassidee Webb (
Fr.-Castroville, Texas) also was defeated 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles by Lauren Aturaliya and
Clare Kelnhofer (
So.-Brandon, Wis.) fell by the same score at No. 6 singles to Amelia Watson.
Sadie Conway (
Jr.-Monroe, Wis.) and
Mary Blossom (
Fr.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) fell to Aturaliya and Lamb 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Babcock and
Morgan Erbstoesser (
Sr.-Union, Ill.) also were defeated 8-2 by Anna Vanden Acker and Morgan Fisher at No. 3 doubles.
The Muskies are in action next on Tuesday when they take on Ripon College on the road at 5 p.m.
