Series history:Â 16th meeting, Benedictine leads 13-2
The series between the Muskies and Eagles started with both being part of the inaugural year of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in 2006. Lakeland won two of the first three meetings but since then Benedictine has won 12 straight, including a 4-1 win a year ago this weekend in Lisle, Ill. Victoria Alvarado scored a goal and added two assists for the Eagles while
Hope Cerney converted a penalty kick for the Muskies' goal. Lakeland's last win in the series was a 5-0 triumph on the team's Senior Day Oct. 25, 2008. Lindsay Rogers scored twice in that match and Amy Christenson, Brittney Smit and Megan Andrews all added single goals.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Concordia Chicago 5-0 Wednesday
The Muskies fell well behind quickly for the first time this season, allowing three goals less than 20 minutes into the match and dropping their sixth straight match, including fifth straight in conference play. Concordia dominated the first half in taking a 3-0 halftime lead, and though Lakeland generated more attacks in the second half it could not break through for a goal.
Haley Rich made ten saves in goal.
Though the Muskies have been winless since a 3-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist at home Sept. 6, they have largely been competitive in most of their matches against the NACC's better teams. Lakeland trailed St. Norbert 2-1 with just minutes remaining in the first half, was down 3-0 to Dominican with under 15 minutes left and held MSOE to three goals Sept. 21, including one with just over five minutes left.
Benedictine last time out: Lost to Illinois Tech 4-0 Wednesday
The Eagles fell behind less than three minutes into the match and lost contact in the second half when the Scarlet Hawks scored three times, including two goals just over three minutes apart early in the second 45 minutes. Katherine Prochnow made five saves in goal as Benedictine was outshot 20-3 and fell in its first match after posting its first win of the season on Sunday, a 3-0 victory over Monmouth (Ill.). The Eagles come in 0-3-2 in the NACC, with scoreless ties against Concordia Chicago and Marian, and are trying to rally in the second half of the season for the second straight year. Benedictine was 1-9 through ten matches a year ago before winning six of its final 10 and coming in at 6-7 in the NACC (6-14 overall).
