Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Muskies tie for best four-game start in program history with win over Sabercats

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Alondra Reyes (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored an early goal, Hanna Brouch (So.-Kaukauna, Wis.) tallied for the third time in four games and the Lakeland University women's soccer team continued a good start to its season with a 3-0 shutout of Maranatha Baptist University Tuesday at Taylor Field.

The Muskies won their home opener and for the third time in four games, all played over six days. Lakeland has tied for its best-ever start through four contests and is off to a 3-1 start for just the second time in program history and first time since 2001.

The Muskies controlled play throughout, finishing with a big 36-2 advantage in shot attempts and rarely letting the Sabercats advance deep on their offensive end. Lakeland scored two goals in the first half, added another early in the second and came close to more on a number of quality opportunities especially in the second half.

The Muskies got on the board less than nine minutes into the match, when Faith Turley (Jr.-Lincoln, Ill.) struck a free kick on goal from 40 yards out. Maranatha Baptist goalkeeper Mallory Willette knocked the ball away, but it caromed right to Reyes, who put it in the goal for her second goal of the season.

Lakeland scored again in the 30th minute, as Allison Solberg Kieler (Fr.-Ridgeway, Wis.) sent a diagonal pass right to left atop the 18-yard box that freshman Lola D'Acquisto (Cudahy, Wis.) collected and poked to Brouch, who took one touch and blasted a shot inside the left post for her third goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.

The Muskies took that lead into halftime and then scored just over a minute after halftime. Jenna Catarino (So.-Stanton, Mich.) received the ball in open space in the offensive end, and with no immediate defender stepping up unloaded a shot from 23 yards out that found the upper left corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

Lakeland continued to threaten and nearly added another goal on two occasions in the 68th minute, as Willett deflected away a shot by Brouch but D'Acquisto ran onto the rebound and hit a looping shot that drilled the crossbar. Reyes also had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 89th minute that was stopped, and Janae Kilsdonk (Fr.-Appleton, Wis.) also had a chance in the final minute with a sliding shot attempt that went just left of the goal.

Maranatha also made its furthest advances in the second half with a trio of corner kicks, but starting goalkeeper Haley Rich (Sr.-West Chicago, Ill.) and reserve goalkeeper Hailey Hawe (Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) had to make just one save each for the match.

Brouch finished with ten shot attempts, Reyes added shot shots and both Caterino and Turley took five hsots each. Willette finished making 16 saves for Maranatha Baptist, which dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Lakeland will close out its non-conference schedule Sunday when it travels to face Lawrence University at 1:30 p.m. in Appleton.
