RIPON, Wis. – Ripon College scored twice in the second half and the Lakeland University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Tuesday night in a non-conference game.
The Muskies outshot the hosts but the Red Hawks were victorious in the first game in their recently opened Hopp Stadium. Lakeland dropped to 3-9-1 overall while Ripon moved to 3-3-5 overall.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half despite the Muskies posting a 7-3 advantage in shot attempts. The Red Hawks did not put a shot on goal until the 51st minute, when Finley Manning scored off an assist from Andre Robertson to give Ripon a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the 72nd minute, when Tim Geocaris scored an unassisted goal to put Ripon ahead 2-0. Lakeland would have several chances in the late portions of the match but was unable to score.
The Muskies finished with a 17-10 advantage in shot attempts including an 8-3 lead in shots on goal.
Michael Barragan (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Rafael Romero (
Fr.-Mendota, Ill.) led Lakeland with four shot attempts each, including two shots on goal each.
Alessandro Bianchi (
Sr.-Venice, Italy) also added two shots on goal.
Drew Seyfer made eight saves for Ripon for the shutout.
Zach Heiman (
Jr.-Racine, Wis.) made one save for Lakeland.
The Muskies take to the road again Saturday when they travel to face Edgewood College in Verona at 3:30 p.m.
