Edgewood pulls away in second half to drop Lakeland

VERONA, Wis. – Edgewood College's Greta Blau scored twice early in the second half and the Lakeland University women's soccer team fell 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.

The Muskies played for the first time in a week, after Alverno College forfeited the match that was scheduled to be played Wednesday. Lakeland dropped its second straight game and is now 5-10 overall and 2-8 in the NACC.

Edgewood (8-6-3 overall, 5-5 NACC) scored early when Kamy Luecke tallied an unassisted goal 15 minutes, 33 seconds into the match. The Muskies would get just one shot in the first half from Gwynn Manteufel (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) but also attempted four corner kicks, and then would receive some help late in the half when the Eagles' Anika Preusker drew a red card, putting the hosts down a player for the match's final 47:32.

Lakeland was unable to capitalize, though, and Edgewood even stretch the lead out with two goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half. Blau scored just 43 seconds into the half, and then added another goal in the 56th minute for a 3-0 Eagles lead.

The Muskies put just one shot on goal from Jenna Caterino (Jr.-Stanton, Mich.) and Edgewood finished with a 14-4 advantage in shots, including an 11-1 lead in shots on goal. Faith Turley (Sr.-Lincoln, Ill.) made seven saves while four players finished with one shot attempt each.

Lakeland is on the road again Wednesday when it travels to face Marian University at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
