WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College's Tony Bedolla scored three goals and the only three goals of the match as the Lakeland University men's soccer team fell by a 3-0 score Wednesday night.
The Muskies continued to struggle in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, dropping to 2-8-1 overall and 1-6 in conference matches after their fifth straight loss. Wisconsin Lutheran remained in the top half of the conference, improving to 6-3-2 overall and 4-2 in NACC play.
An even game by most statistical measures also was scoreless until very late in the first half, but took a quick turn just before and after the halftime break.
The Warriors broke the ice with 1 minute, 36 seconds left in the first half, when Bedolla scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Cameron Jochimsen for a 1-0 lead they would take to halftime. WLC would then add on a second goal just 1:44 into the second half, with a foul called in the box giving Bedolla a penalty kick that he would convert for a 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin Lutheran then added an insurance goal in the 60th minute, and it was Bedolla again, this time scoring unassisted. The Muskies would attempt five of their 12 shots in the second half but just two of them were on goal, the last coming from
Brendan Perry (
Jr.-New Baltimore, Mich.) in the 67th minute.
WLC finished with a slim 15-12 lead in shot attempts and posted a 9-6 lead in shots on goal.
Alessandro Bianchi (
Sr.-Venice, Italy) led the Muskies with four shot attempts while
Zach Heiman (
Jr.-Racine, Wis.) made six saves in goal for Lakeland.
The Muskies are back home Saturday to host Illinois Institute of Technology at 3:30 p.m. at Taylor Field.
