Muskies take a set from NACC leaders but fall to Aurora

AURORA, Ill. – Hunter Henson (Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) drove home 14 kills but the Lakeland University men's volleyball team fell to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-leading Aurora University in four sets Saturday night.

The Muskies were able to take a set but fell to the Spartans 25-12, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16. Lakeland dropped to 6-16 overall and 1-9 in the NACC with two matches remaining in its season.

The Muskies staged a rally in the third set to stay alive in the match. Aurora (14-10 overall, 10-1 NACC) led 14-10 and still held a 20-18 lead late, but Lakeland scored four straight points to take the lead, including a service ace from Eli Weinrich (Fr.-Mequon, Wis.) and a kill from setter Chase Anderson (Fr.-Hartford, Wis.). The Spartans would come back and the teams were tied at 23-23 before an Aurora service error and a kill by Henson sent the match to a fourth set.

The Spartans never trailed in the final set, building early leads of 9-4 and 13-6 and then pulling away late. Lakeland made a brief 4-1 run to get within 14-10 and the teams traded the next six points before Aurora scored three straight for a 20-13 lead.

Henson led Lakeland with 14 kills, his sixth match with at least 10 kills this season. Ben Busalacchi (Jr.-Muskego, Wis.) and Tim Matijevic (Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) both added eight kills each. Jakob Donohue (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) also added fie kills with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage in five attacks. Anderson finished with 31 assists and seven digs and Drew Green (Sr.-Brooklyn Park, Minn.) paced the defense with eight digs.
