Muskies women’s tennis makes spring return with narrow dual loss to North Park

KOHLER – The Lakeland University women's tennis team began its spring season and its preparations for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 6-3 dual loss to North Park (Ill.) University in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Sports Core.

The Muskies played for the first time since October and got in a competition in advance of the NACC Tournament. Lakeland qualified for the tourney in the fall and will face Wisconsin Lutheran College in the tourney first round April 25.

The Muskies (5-7 overall) split six singles matches but just missed the dual win with one narrow loss each in singles and doubles play.

Sadie Conway (Jr.-Monroe, Wis.) posted the most convincing win for Lakeland with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over North Park's Anna Miller at Number 5 singles. Clare Kelnhofer (So.-Brandon, Wis.) defeated Jiliyn Boles at No. 6 singles, taking a second set tiebreaker to complete a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win. Kassidee Webb (Fr.-Castroville, Texas) also won a third set tiebreaker to top Kate Vinson 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 at No. 3 singles.

Baylee Babcock (Jr.-Mauston, Wis.) went to the wire with North Park's Olivia De Luca at No. 4 singles before De Luca won in a third set tiebreaker 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Webb and Olivia Heling (Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) also lost a hard-fought decision at No. 2 doubles to Miller and Vinson, falling 8-7 including 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
