PLYMOUTH, Wis. –
Baylee Babcock (
Sr.-Mauston, Wis.) won her singles match in three sets, one of three singles wins for the Lakeland University women's tennis team in a 5-4 dual victory over Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday at Plymouth High School.
Babcock defeated Carlotta Canovas 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at Number 4 singles for one of the deciding wins in the dual for the Muskies. The team victory gives Lakeland a 3-1 overall record this season and a 2-1 mark in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and also gave the Muskies a close win over the Scarlet Hawks for the second straight season.
Babcock finished as the only double winner on the day for the Muskies, as she also teamed with
Sydnee Conway (
Fr.-Monroe, Wis.) for a 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Lakeland also won at No. 2 doubles as
Mary Blossom (
So.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) and
Sadie Conway (
Sr.-Monroe, Wis.) bested Paige Geiger and Pilar Torres-Dulce 8-2.
Olivia Heling (
So.-West Bend, Wis.) also earned the win at No. 1 singles, defeating Hannah Markiewicz 6-3, 6-3.
Kassidee Webb (
So.-Castroville, Texas) also defeated Geiger 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, and Lakeland just missed a win at No. 6 singles where Torres-Dulce edged
Mary Johnson (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The Muskies next will travel to take on Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Mequon.
