LA CROSSE, Wis. –
Emily Dickmann (
Fr.-Grafton, Wis.) was named to the all-tournament team and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team finished 1-1 on the final day of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational Saturday.
The Muskies traveled up for the final day of the tourney and split two matches, first falling to UW-Stout in five sets, 25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 30-28, 15-12. Lakeland finished on a good note, defeating Martin Luther (Minn.) College 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17.
The Muskies (4-7 overall) lost a heartbreaker in their first match against undefeated Stout (11-0 overall), coming up short in a match that included 52 ties and 18 lead changes over five sets. Nineteen of those ties came in the fourth set, where Lakeland fought off four set points and even had a match point at 26-25 before the Blue Devils came back.
Stout finally finished the set off with a block and a kill to win 30-28, and then never trailed in a fifth set that still also was close to the end. The Blue Devils jumped to a quick 5-1 lead, but the Muskies came back to tie at 8-8 and still trailed just 12-11 after a kill by
Katie Metzler (
Sr.-Kewaunee, Wis.). UW-Stout closed with three of the final four points, with the match ending on a Lakeland attack error.
