Reyes sisters combine for seven goals as Muskies blank Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Alondra Reyes (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored four goals and twin sister Marlen Reyes (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) added three goals as the Lakeland University women's soccer team shut out Mount Mary University 9-0 Monday afternoon in a non-conference match.

Alondra Reyes scored four times for the second time in her career, tying her career high set last year also against the Blue Angels in the Muskies' season opener. Marlen Reyes also added her first career hat trick as Lakeland improved to 4-6 overall on the season.

The Muskies scored four times in the first half and added five more goals in the second half. Marlen Reyes opened the scoring 11 minutes, 16 seconds into the match, scoring her fifth goal of the season with an assist from Lia Armstrong (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Alondra Reyes then tallied a hat trick in the first half alone, scoring unassisted goals in the 13th, 19th and 34th minutes.

Marlen Reyes then converted a penalty kick just 3:24 into the second half, and scored her third of the match just over two minutes later. Alondra Reyes then followed with her fourth goal shortly after to make the score 7-0.

Lakeland then saw a first in the 66th minute when Gwynn Manteufel (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) scored with an assist from Jenna Caterino (Jr.-Stanton, Mich.), the first collegiate goal for Manteufel. Janae Kilsdonk (So.-Appleton, Wis.) rounded out the scoring with just over 21 minutes left in the match with an unassisted goal, her first goal of the season and second of her Muskies career.

Lakeland finished with a huge 38-8 advantage in shot attempts, including a 26-4 bulge in shots on goal. Alondra Reyes (nine shots) and Marlen Reyes (seven) led the attack, with Caterino adding five shots and Mikayla Belasco (Fr.-Muskegon, Mich.) adding four.

Faith Turley (Sr.-Lincoln, Ill.) made three saves in goal in 57-plus minutes before freshman Emilie Runkel (Burlington, Wis.) came on for the remainder of the match and made one save.

The Muskies return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play Wednesday when they host Dominican University at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field.
