RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Dominican University's Oscar Montejano scored the opening goal 6 minutes, 46 seconds into the match, and the Stars tacked on a late insurance tally in a 1-0 victory over the Lakeland University men's soccer team Wednesday afternoon.

The Muskies kept the perennial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference power Stars in check most of the match but dropped to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4 in the. The Stars moved to 6-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the NACC.

The Muskies fared much better than they did their last time out in a lopsided home loss to Benedictine University, limiting the Stars to just five shots on goal. Dominican got on the board early, though, scoring in the seventh minute when Michael Rocha was working inside the penalty area and appeared to have the ball poked away. The ball instead went to Montejano, who shot from 12 yards out and scored inside the left post past goalkeeper Zach Heiman (Jr.-Racine, Wis.).

The score remained 1-0 deep into the second half until the 83rd minute. After a Lakeland foul, Ivan Guerrero took a free kick and buried it in the upper right corner for his second goal of the season, and the margin held up the rest of the way.

Dominican posted a 19-5 advantage in shot attempts but just a 5-2 lead in shots on goal. Joseph Reyes (Sr.-Pico River, Calif.) and Carson Galla (Sr.-Deerfield, Wis.) recorded the two shots on target, both coming in the second half. Alessandro Bianchi (Sr.-Venice, Italy) also added two shot attempts while Heiman made three saves in playing all 90 minutes in goal.

The Muskies are back on the road Saturday traveling to take on Aurora University at 6:30 p.m. in Aurora, Ill.
