Brayden Kennedy (
Fr.-Manitowoc, Wis.) tied his season high with 19 points but the Lakeland University men's basketball team lost to St. Norbert College 79-66 Saturday afternoon at SNC's Mulva Sports Center.
The Green Knights completed a season sweep of the Muskies, backing up their 84-66 win at Lakeland a month ago. The Muskies lost for the second time in 2024 and dropped to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
St. Norbert (11-3 overall, 6-1 NACC) shot 46.0% from the field for the game (23 of 50) and also made 26 of 28 free throw attempts (92.9%), leading for all but the opening 94 seconds. The Green Knights built a double-digit lead just over eight minutes in on Jamison Nickolai's layup making it 20-10 with 11 minutes, 43 seconds left in the first half. SNC eventually led by as much as 17 late in the first half and took a 40-25 lead into halftime.
The Green Knights would lead by as much as 21 points early in the second half, the last time when Garrett Grzesk's three-pointer made it 49-28 with 15:38 left in the game. Lakeland followed by outscoring St. Norbert 14-5 over the next six minutes, including seven straight points capped by
Kai Buliox (
Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scoring inside to close within 54-42 with 9:51 to play.
The Muskies would hang around the rest of the way and got as close as nine points late when
Asanjai Hunter (
So.-Racine, Wis.) made one of two free throws with 2:18 left. Grzesk hit a three-pointer the next time down, though, and the Green Knights continued rock solid at the foul line, making eight straight free throws to put the game away.
Kennedy finished making 7 of 16 shots from the field, including 5 of 12 from three-point range. Hunter scored 14 points and
Cam Jaeger (
Jr.-Oostburg, Wis.) added 11 points and tied his career high with 10 rebounds for his second career double-double.
Lakeland shot 39.0%, making 23 of 59 field goals including 10 of 29 from three-point range (34.5%). The Muskies also battled St. Norbert to a 33-33 standstill on the boards.
Nickolai scored 20 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Green Knights. Carter Gebler added 12 points.
The Muskies complete a string of three straight road games when they travel to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
