Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lakeland celebrates seniors with 3-0 win over Maranatha Baptist

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Dirk Dell Adema (Jr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) scored just over six minutes into the match and the Lakeland University men's soccer team made good use of its opportunities in a 3-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist University in a rare weekday afternoon game at Taylor Field Tuesday.

Dirk Dell Adema, brother Brahm Dell Adema (Sr.-Plano, Texas) and Dunia Wangu (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) all scored goals and the Muskies had a successful Senior Day with a non-conference win. Lakeland also won its second straight game at home and improved to 4-10 overall on the season.

Maranatha Baptist (3-7-3 overall) outshot Lakeland 15-11 in the match, including 6-3 in the first half, and the visiting Sabercats applied pressure early with Zach Heiman (Sr.-Racine, Wis.) having to make a diving save on a shot by Colby Balyo less than three minutes in. Instead, it was the Muskies scoring first with Porter Gigstead (Fr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) chipping a pass ahead to Dirk Dell Adema, whose shot went right through the legs of goalkeeper Brad Brock just 6 minutes, 11 seconds into the game.

Maranatha threatened again in the 12th minute with a quick transition, but Aaron Jones hit the near post with his shot from the right wing. Lakeland would add on in the 33rd minute, though, as Brahm Dell Adema fired a shot from 20 yards out that beat Brock just inside the left post, making the Muskies 2-for-2 on shot attempts to that point of the match.

The teams would play on even terms most of the second half, and the Muskies added a third goal in the 64th minute, with Gigstead's ball through to Wangu setting the forward up for a finish on the run from 15 yards out to make it 3-0. The Sabercats would hit the post twice more in the second half, and Matt English (Sr.-Cheyenne, Wyo.) made six saves in the second half to preserve the shutout, Lakeland's second shutout win of the season.

Heiman and English combined to make nine saves in all. A total of twenty-six players got into the match for the Muskies, who substituted freely in the non-conference game and with another contest to play tomorrow.

Joe Shank played in goal in the second half for Maranatha Baptist and made four saves. Jones led the Sabercats with three shot attempts, including a shot stopped by English in the final seconds that resulted in a rebound shot by Clayton Miller that hit the post to end the guests' final threat.

A total of nine seniors were honored at halftime of the match, including Brahm Dell Adema, English, Heiman, Brendan Perry (New Baltimore, Mich.), Gavin Pinchart (De Pere, Wis.), Ben Taylor (Sheboygan, Wis.) and Bryan Tovar (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) plus Michael Barragan (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Daniel Siebert (Mount Pulaski, Ill.), both sidelined for the season due to injury.

The Muskies are back in action at Taylor Field tomorrow when they host Ripon College at 4 p.m.
