FOND DU LAC, Wis. –
Austin Eigenberger (
Fr.-Grafton, Wis.) and
Dunia Wangu (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) both scored goals and the Lakeland University men's soccer team rallied from deficits twice to earn a 2-2 tie with Marian University Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
The Muskies played to a draw for the first time and tied the team high for most goals in a loss or tie this season. Lakeland also kept alive slim hopes for a chance to qualify for the NACC Tournament, five points out of a spot with two matches to play and still with a chance to play into the tourney if it wins its final two regular season matches and receives help.
The Muskies (4-12-1 overall, 2-7-1 NACC) outshot the Sabres 15-12 for the match and posted an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal, but fell behind in the 14th minute when Nathan Blazenko headed in a corner kick to open the scoring.
Lakeland responded with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, when Eigenberger took advantage of a failed clear attempt and scored inside the left post for his second goal of the season and first since Sept. 1 and since returning from an injury that caused him to miss eight games.
The score remained 1-1 into the second half and the 57th minute, when Micah Boyer scored on a high cross to put Marian ahead. The Muskies needed just 34 seconds to respond, though, with
Aldo Rangel (
Fr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) sending the pass to Wangu, who scored inside the right post for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Eigenberger,
Jordan Davis-Troller (
Jr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) and
Porter Gigstead (
Fr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) led Lakeland with three shot attempts each.
Zach Heiman (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) played the first 61 minutes in goal before
Matt English (
Sr.-Cheyenne, Wyo.) finished, and Heiman made one save.
Connor Farrell made six saves in goal for the Sabres (3-10-4 overall, 2-7-2 NACC).
Lakeland travels Sunday to face Rockford University for a match beginning at 1 p.m.
