Imants Katlaps '96, a Hall of Fame basketball player at Lakeland and successful businessman, died earlier in November after a short battle with cancer.

Katlaps helped lead the men's basketball team to the 1993-94 NAIA National Tournament as Lakeland won a share of the Lake Michigan Conference regular season title and the LMC Tournament championship. He helped Lakeland to another LMC Tournament title his senior year.

An imposing presence in the paint, Katlaps finished with 1,092 points and 545 rebounds in three seasons. He was a first-team all-Lake Michigan Conference honoree as a senior, honorable mention as a junior and LMC Rookie of the Year and special mention honoree his first season. He led a balanced Muskies attack in scoring and rebounds in 1993-94 and 1995-96.

He was inducted into the Lakeland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 along with former teammate Martins Bondars.

Katlaps had worked as managing director at Select Asset Management.
