Lakeland University football senior
Jake Leclaire (
Stuart, Fla.) has added another honor for his season as he has been named to the D3football.com All-Region 5 Team, as announced by the website Wednesday morning.
Leclaire was named to the all-region third team as a defensive end, the first Muskie to receive the honor since 2021. NCAA Division III Region 5 includes the American Rivers Conference, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, conferences covering the states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Leclaire added onto earlier postseason honors received when he was named a first team all-NACC selection. A graduate student playing his fifth season with the Muskies after only getting in three games in the COVID-19 disrupted 2020-21 short season, he had a huge season, emerging as the most disruptive defender in the NACC and one of the best in the country.
Leclaire finished with 55 tackles (36 solo, 19 assisted), with 19 tackles for loss including 7.5 sacks, as well as two passes batted down. He led the Muskies in tackles, TFLs and sacks, and also easily led the NACC in total TFLs and TFLs per game, a full 4.5 sacks and 0.66 TFLs/game ahead of his nearest competition.
Leclaire's 2.1 TFLs/game also ranks third nationally in Division III, and he is 12th nationally in total TFLs despite the Muskies playing just nine games this season. He also ranks 30th nationally in sacks/game (0.83). He is the first Lakeland player named to a D3football.com all-region team since Shazon Crutcher, Larry Rivers and Otis Watts all were second team picks in 2021.
