PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Seven players scored in double figures and the Lakeland University women's basketball team set or tied a number of records in a 112-28 win over Northland College Friday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies set a school record for points in a game, one of a number of new program records in the win over the outmanned LumberJills. Lakeland moved over the .500 mark for the first time this season, improving to 5-4 overall.
The Muskies made 51 field goals, besting the previous mark of 47 field goals made against Mount Mary University Jan. 25, 1986 and again Dec. 29, 2003. The 112 points also broke the previous school record of 109 points scored against Mount Mary in 2003.
Lakeland also pitched a shutout in a quarter for the first time in the 10 years of women's collegiate basketball playing four 10-minute quarters. The Muskies led 31-0 after one period, breaking the previous low quarter point total of one by Alverno College Feb. 23, 2021.
Alexis Johnson (
Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) also set a school single-game record with 10 steals, besting the previous mark of nine steals set by Becca Tilleman against Aurora University Jan. 22, 2011. The Muskies also tied Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference records for margin of victory and total steals (35) in a game.
Meghan MacPhee (
So.-Marquette, Mich.) and
A.T. Bartlett (
Jr.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) scored 19 points each and Johnson and
Ariana Vaitkeviciute (
Fr.-Merrionette Park, Ill.) added 12 points each.
Halle Boldt (
Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Peyton Madl (
Fr.-New Lenox, Ill.) both scored 11 points and
Jenna Shea (
So.-Appleton, Wis.) chipped in 10 points.
Boldt added nine rebounds and five steals and
Meryam Belbaz (
Sr.-Skokie, Ill.) posted six rebounds and four assists. Shea also finished with six steals.
Britta Josephson scored 12 points and added nine rebounds to lead Northland (0-5 overall), which dressed just six players.
Lakeland makes a road swing in Michigan next week with a pair of games, starting with a trip to face Calvin College Thursday at 7 p.m. Eastern time, 6 p.m. Central in Grand Rapids, Mich.
