WATERTOWN, Wis. –
Eli Weinrich (
So.-Mequon, Wis.) set a career high with 10 kills and posted big numbers across the board and the Lakeland University men's volleyball team cruised past Maranatha Baptist University for a three-set sweep Friday night in a non-conference match.
The Muskies rolled to a 25-20, 25-11, 25-10 win over the Sabercats for their third win of the season. Lakeland posted its second sweep this season and improved to 3-7 overall.
Weinrich posted his 10 kills in 13 attacks for a .769 hitting percentage. His mark would've qualified as the best hitting mark in a match in the Muskies' 11-year varsity history, but fell two attacks short of the minimum of 15 attempts to qualify for the record.
Weinrich also added team highs with 10 digs and five service aces. The five aces also were a new career high and part of Lakeland's 10 service aces in the match.
The Muskies were only seriously challenged in the first set, which included six ties and three lead changes early on. Maranatha Baptist (0-14 overall) also scored six consecutive points late in the set to close within 19-17, but Lakeland closed the set with five of the final seven points, including two straight kills by
Jordan Davis-Troller (
So.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) to close it out.
The Muskies fell behind 4-1 to start the second set before scoring the next eight points for a 9-4 lead. Lakeland would never trail again in the match, and finished hitting .308 for the match with 36 kills and 12 errors.
Colin Kenney (
Sr.-Shorewood, Wis.) also finished with eight kills and Davis-Troller added seven kills on nine swings for a .778 attack percentage.
Chase Anderson (
So.-Hartford, Wis.) posted 30 assists and six digs and
Drew Green (
Sr.-Brooklyn Center, Minn.) also added six digs.
Daniel Says led the Sabercats with eight kills. Caleb Goetz added a team-high seven digs.
