MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin came back late to win the third set and with it closed out the match, sweeping the Lakeland University men's volleyball team Wednesday night at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Falcons finished a 25-15, 25-17, 27-25 win to retain the Highway 57 Cup trophy for another year. Concordia won the meeting between the teams for the fourth straight year while the Muskies dropped to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Lakeland was unable to slow down the Falcons' attack, as CUW hit .344 for the match with 38 kills and just seven errors in 90 attacks. Concordia (9-7 overall, 5-2 NACC) also added a 10-1 advantage in blocks as the Muskies hit just .049 with 29 kills and 24 errors.
CUW dominated the first set and quickly erased a four-point deficit early in the second set to pull away to a 2-0 lead in the match. Lakeland led for much of the third set, though, and was ahead by four points on two occasions, the last after
Levi Everts (
Jr.-Hartford, Wis.) delivered a service ace for a 17-13 lead.
The Falcons rallied to tie at 21-21, but the Muskies had set points at 24-23 and again at 25-24. Concordia fought off both and then finished with the match's final three points, with a Lakeland attack error on match point closing it out.

So.-Mequon, Wis.) led Lakeland with 10 kills. Everts posted three service aces,

Sr.-Brooklyn Center, Minn.) notched 12 digs.
Spencer Herman led CUW with 13 kills and Tate Miller added 10 kills. Parker Pearson also posted a match-high 15 digs.
Lakeland returns to play Saturday when it travels to face Rockford University for a 1 p.m. match on the road in Illinois.
