Raiders dismiss Muskies in three quick sets in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee School of Engineering hit .306 for the match and the Lakeland University men's volleyball team was defeated in three sets Wednesday night at MSOE's Kern Center.

The Raiders swept to a 25-20, 25-8, 25-19 win in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match. MSOE improved to 13-9 overall and stayed among the leaders in the conference at 9-2, while Lakeland dropped to 7-14 overall and 4-6 in conference with two regular season matches remaining.

The Muskies struggled to get an attack going with just 24 kills and 16 errors for a .095 hitting percentage. The Raiders, on the other hand, were efficient with 39 kills to just 13 errors, and also added an 8-0 advantage in service aces.

Lakeland stayed with MSOE for most of the first set, trailing just 19-18 late after a kill by Eli Weinrich (So.-Mequon, Wis.). The Raiders would follow with the next five points, though, and closed it out on their third set point to take the match lead.

MSOE then breezed through the second set, but the Muskies led 12-10 in the third after a kill by Ben Busalacchi (Sr.-Muskego, Wis.) before the Raiders began to take control. A kill by Carter Shavitz gave the hosts the lead for good at 15-14, and MSOE again pulled away late in the set and closed it out with another kill by Shavitz.

Busalacchi finished with eight kills and Weinrich added six kills, but no other Muskie posted more than two kills. Chase Anderson (So.-Hartford, Wis.) posted 12 assists and Drew Green (Sr.-Brooklyn Center, Minn.) added a team-high 10 digs.

Shavitz led MSOE with 11 kills and Tommy Clausz and Callan Harris added eight kills each. Parker Rings posted 31 assists and Seth Thomas added 12 digs and four service aces.

Lakeland is back on the court again tomorrow night when it hosts Aurora University at 6 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
