WAUWATOSA, Wis. –
Andrew Davison (
Jr.-Elburn, Ill.) made nine saves to keep the Lakeland University men's soccer team in the game enough to play Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 0-0 tie Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.
The Muskies held on for a tie despite a large disadvantage in shot attempts and remained at .500 overall on the season at 4-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference. Wisconsin Lutheran moved to 1-7-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the NACC.
The Warriors finished with a 22-5 advantage in shot attempts, including the first six shots of the game in the opening 13 minutes. WLC also posted a 12-1 bulge in shots in the second half.
The Muskies finally posted their first shot late in the 14th minute, when
Cody Vojta (
Fr.-Saint Germain, Wis.) from a defender spot sent a ball from nearly 40 yards out that hit the top of the crossbar before bouncing away.
Dunia Wangu (
So.-Tanzania) added a pair of shot attempts later in the half, and also headed a ball inside the 18-yard box to
Warner Beyer (
Fr.-Shawano, Wis.), who got off a contested shot in front of the goal that was saved by Lutheran goalkeeper Owen Gault. Wangu also added Lakeland's lone shot attempt in the second half, coming in the 57th minute.
Davison made three saves in the first half and then stopped six shots in the second half. The last came with just over two minutes left, when he went to the ground to stop a shot aimed inside the right post by Rafael Galindo.
Davison finished with his first shutout for Lakeland. Gault stopped two shots for WLC, while Galindo led the Warriors with six shot attempts.
Lakeland is on the road for its next match Saturday against Aurora University at 3:30 p.m.
