Muskies defeated by Warriors at home

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College scored just over two minutes into the match and stayed in front the rest of the way, defeating the Lakeland University women's soccer team 4-0 Wednesday evening at John Taylor Memorial Field.

The Warriors scored three times in the first half in all and cruised the rest of the way to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland is now 0-8-1 overall and is 0-5 in the NACC.

The Muskies spent much of the night on defense, with WLC finishing with an 18-1 advantage in shots. Twelve shots came in the first half, when the Warriors built a 3-0 lead before halftime.

Wisconsin Lutheran scored first 2 minutes, 30 seconds into the match after a foul was called in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. Alaena Zastrow converted the kick to make it 1-0. The Warriors' Ava Zarling later in the half scored twice in a stretch of 4:36, with goals in the 27th and 31st minutes.

WLC added its final goal just over nine minutes into the second half. Ginny Shade received a cross behind the defense in the box and Addi Reimer (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) kicked away a first shot, but Shade got to the rebound and scored to make it 4-0.

Lakeland's lone shot attempt came in the first half in the 30th minute with a transition with Alyssa Voigt (So.-New Holstein, Wis.) making a run down the right side. Voigt got off a shot from a sharp angle from the right that Lutheran goalkeeper Sam Schroeder gobbled up.

Reimer stopped 11 shots for Lakeland.

Lakeland is on the road Saturday when it travels to take on Aurora University at 1 p.m. in Montgomery, Ill.
