Ingrid Steinbock (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) scored a goal late in the first half to tie the game for the Lakeland University women's soccer team, but Dominican University scored twice in the second half to defeat the Muskies 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Lakeland battled despite a huge disadvantage in shots and time of possession, hanging with one of the better teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The Muskies were tied at halftime and within a goal into the 66th minute before falling to 2-12-1 overall and 1-9 in the NACC. Dominican improved to 8-5-1 overall and 6-3 in conference.
The Muskies scored a goal off a set piece sent in by
Charmiss Tucker (
So.-Kitty Hawk, N.C.) that bounced around inside the box before falling to the feet of Steinbock, who tapped it in for her first collegiate goal.
Dominican scored its first goal 12 minutes into the contest on a shot by Tia Garr from the top of the eighteen-yard box that found the top right corner of the goal. The Stars threatened to increase the lead in the 16th minute with a corner kick that was ticketed for inside the right post before being cleared away by defender
Allison Solberg-Kieler (
Sr.-Ridgeway, Wis.).
The Stars' second goal came early in the second half off a corner by Mia Tauilahu that saw the ball bouncing around in the five-yard box before Kamryn Klinger knocked it into the back of the net. They added their final goal in the 66
th minute on a shot in the box by Garr into the top right corner again.
The Stars were credited with 54 shots in the game including 21 of those shots on goal, but
Addi Reimer (
Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) kept Lakeland in it with 17 saves in goal.
Lakeland returns home this week for its final two games of the season. The Muskies host St. Norbert on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and finish their season against rivals Concordia Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
