Muskies win second straight, sweep Minnesota trip with victory over Polars

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – A.T. Bartlett (Sr.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) scored a season-high 17 points and the Lakeland University women's basketball team dominated on the glass in a 77-59 win over Crown (Minn.) College Friday afternoon at the Crown Athletic Center.

The Muskies never trailed in winning for the second time in three days and improving to 3-7 on the season. Lakeland also complete a sweep of its two-game trip against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opponents in Minnesota after also defeating Martin Luther College on Tuesday.

The Muskies set the tone early with a 27-point first quarter, riding the wave of hot shooting two days earlier at Martin Luther. Lakeland hit 14 three-pointers in its win Tuesday, and it came out with six triples in the first 7 1/2 minutes against Crown (3-8 overall). Bartlett hit three three-pointers early, two as part of an 8-0 run to start the game, and Jenna Shea (Jr.-Appleton, Wis.), Madeline Sasis (Fr.-Huntley, Ill.) and Alexis Johnson (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) all added threes as the Muskies built a 27-16 lead after ten minutes of play.

Lakeland cooled off from three-point range after its opening rush but remained in control the rest of the way, never letting the Polars get closer than seven points the rest of the way. Brayli Reimer scored a game-high 27 points for Crown, and her layup cut the Muskies' lead to 29-22 early in the second quarter. Lakeland began building its lead from there, though, and took its largest lead of the half at 46-29 on a steal and layup by Sonia Pagan (So.-Hales Corners, Wis.) with 32 seconds left in the second period.

The Polars never drew closer than 13 points in the second half as the Muskies maintained a healthy double-digit lead throughout. Lakeland was buoyed by a 48-27 rebounding advantage that included 23 offensive rebounds, and Crown also struggled at the free throw line, making 14 of 27 foul shots (51.9%).

Bartlett finished making 6 of 10 shots from the field including 4 of 8 from three-point range and also added four assists. Sasis also scored a career-high 13 for the second straight game and Lauryn Johnson (Sr.-Kenosha, Wis.) added eight points plus a team-high eight rebounds, including six on the offensive end.

Sadie Grabow (So.-Bourbonnais, Ill.) also added seven rebounds and Jiaryatou Cisse (Jr.-Harrison, Mich.) scored six points and hauled in six rebounds. Twelve different players scored for Lakeland, which finished shooting 40.0% (30 of 75) including 10 of 35 from three-point range (28.6%).

Reimer made 11 of 19 shots from the floor and added eight rebounds for Crown, which shot 42.0% (21 of 50) but was just 3 of 19 from three-point range. Jacee Glasgow added 11 points.

The Muskies now are off until after Christmas, next taking on Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Marian University for a designated non-conference game Monday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
