STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Asanjai Hunter (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) went over 1,000 points for his Lakeland University men's basketball career, reaching the milestone in the Muskies' 87-70 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Monday afternoon in a non-conference game.
Hunter became the 43rd player in program history to score 1,000 points and the first to join the 1,000-point club since Cam Jaeger did so in 2023. He entered the game with 991 points and hit 1,000 with a three-pointer with 4:41 left in the first half for his ninth, 10th and 11th points of the game.
Hunter scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half and led a considerable comeback after the Muskies (2-9 overall) came back from a 17-point deficit early to take the lead. UW-Stevens Point (10-1 overall) bolted to an 11-1 lead to start the game and led 22-5 just over seven minutes into the game, but Lakeland responded with a 19-2 run of its own to draw within a point at 25-24 after a steal and layup by
Delon Zollicoffer-White (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) with 8:49 left in the half.
The Muskies came all the way back to take the lead when Hunter scored on a layup to make it 31-30 with 6:34 left in the first half. The Pointers scored the next seven points in regaining the lead, and UWSP took a 45-39 lead into halftime after scoring six of the final eight points in the half.
UW-Stevens Point broke the game open early in the second half, outscoring Lakeland 17-3 over the first 4:43 with a free throw by Carter Combs putting UWSP up 62-42 with 15:17 left in the game. The Muskies would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way, and the Pointers led by as many as 24 points late.
Jaxson Dillon (
Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) led Lakeland with 18 points including four three-pointers.
Parker Braun (
Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) also added eight points plus a game-high four steals.
The Muskies shot 46.2% for the game, making 24 of 52 field goals including 10 of 24 from three-point range (41.7%) with six triples coming in the first half.
Seth Miron led UWSP with 21 points and Cal Krohn added 13 points and seven rebounds. The Pointers shot 60.3%, making 35 of 58 shots from the field, including 56 points scored in the paint.
The Muskies have concluded non-conference play and now dive into the heart of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule beginning with a trip to face Dominican University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
