PLYMOUTH, Wis. –
Jiaryatou Cisse (
Jr.-Harrison, Mich.) scored 10 points and hauled in 13 rebounds off the bench and the Lakeland University women's basketball team defeated Edgewood University 66-62 for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win Wednesday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
Cisse notched her first double-double for the Muskies, who won their fifth straight game and also snapped a 10-game losing streak in the series with their first win over the Eagles since 2018. Lakeland also handed Edgewood its first NACC loss of the season while improving to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Muskies earned their best win of the season so far, trailing only once in the game at 2-0 in the contest's early stages. A game of runs saw Lakeland break well in front on multiple occasions before Edgewood (6-7 overall, 4-1 NACC) rallied, including the Eagles' final run cutting the Muskies' 17-point fourth quarter lead dwindle to one point late.
Lakeland led 52-36 late in the third quarter before Edgewood closed the period with the final eight points to cut the lead in half entering the final quarter. The Muskies scored the first nine points of the fourth, though, taking their largest lead of the game at 61-44 with 7:08 left after

Cisse posted eight points and nine rebounds in the second half alone and was everywhere in the 9-0 spurt, with four points, four rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot in less than three minutes. Lakeland would sputter from there, though, with just two points over the next six minutes, a fast break layup by Cisse after a steal and assist by
Lydia Levra (
So.-Elk Mound, Wis.) made it 63-52 with 3:38 remaining.
Edgewood would close in late, and a three-pointer by Taylor Wollin made it 63-62 with 1:30 to play. The Muskies would miss their first shot the next time down, too, but
Sonia Pagan (
So.-Hales Corners, Wis.) grabbed the offensive rebound, and
A.T. Bartlett (
Sr.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) knocked down a high-arcing three-pointer from the left corner to give the Muskies some breathing room at 66-62 with 1:07 left. The Eagles would commit a turnover and then missed two three-pointers in the final seconds.
Lakeland led 15-9 after one quarter and then opened up a 30-16 lead with 4:07 remaining in the second quarter after Pagan tipped an offensive rebound to Levra for a layup. The Eagles came back to within 35-28 at halftime, and then got within four in the third quarter at 40-36 before Lakeland scored 12 straight to regain control late in the period.
