Finer named head coach for Lakeland women’s flag football program

Lakeland University has named Zach Finer as head coach for its new women's flag football program, Director of Athletics Dan Artamenko has announced.

Finer comes to the Muskies with 10 years of experience coaching football at the high school level. He takes the reins of a program at Lakeland that is recruiting immediately with the intention of fielding a full roster in 2026-27 and competing in the spring of 2027.

Finer has spent the last three years as the defensive coordinator at Waukesha South High School. The Blackshirts competed in the Classic 8 Conference his first two years, annually one of the toughest high school football conferences in the state, and this past year finished 3-6 while playing in the Woodland Conference, with four losses by four points or fewer.

Finer also spent three years coaching at Brookfield Central High School and three years coaching at Mishicot High School. He has coached a number of different positions, including offensive line, defensive line, linebackers and running backs.

Finer is a native of Ashwaubenon, Wis., outside of Green Bay, where he played four years of football and graduated from in 2006. He comes from a coaching family, and his father Jim Finer coached for 25 years at the high school level, including leading De Pere High School to a WIAA state championship in 1992.
