DE PERE, Wis. –
Ingrid Steinbock (
Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) made 13 saves to again keep Lakeland University in the game but St. Norbert College took control with a pair of goals close together in the first half in defeating the Muskies 3-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's soccer match Wednesday night.
St. Norbert's Cynthia Coronado and Gracie Adrian scored goals just two minutes, 47 seconds apart, including Coronado's opening goal at 24:31 of the match. The Green Knights held the two-goal lead much of the remainder of the way before tacking on a third goal late and dropped Lakeland to 4-12 overall and 3-8 in the NACC.
St. Norbert (7-9-1 overall, 6-4 NACC) got the better of the Muskies after the teams tied a year ago. The Green Knights outshot Lakeland 31-3, including a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Steinbock made four saves in the first 20 minutes before St. Norbert got on the board with Coronado's goal assisted by Colleen Callaghan in the 25th minute. Callaghan was involved again with the assist in the 28th minute on Adrian's goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Taytum Theobald (
Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) had a pair of shot attempts on goal late in the opening half that both were saved by SNC goalkeeper Leah Hess.
Malaya Sperber (
Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) also had a chance early in the second half that was blocked by the Green Knights defense, but St. Norbert largely got the better of play the rest of the way.
Steinbock made eight saves in the second half, but St. Norbert finally added to its lead in the 74th minute with Coronado's second goal of the match with an assist from Aleah Reesman to make it 3-0.
Steinbock made at least 13 saves in a match for the seventh time this season. The Muskies also added a team save early in the match as defender
Emily Guy (
Sr.-Glendale Heights, Ill.) while protecting the right post kept a corner kick out of the goal in the seventh minute.
Lakeland finishes up its NACC schedule on Saturday when it takes on Concordia University Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. in Mequon.
