Muskies sweep Greenville for successful start to St. Louis area swing

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Jakob Donohue (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) led an efficient attack with 10 kills and the Lakeland University men's volleyball team got back in the win column with a three-set sweep of Greenville (Ill.) University Thursday night in a non-conference match.

The Muskies opened their two-day trip to the St. Louis area with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 win over the Panthers. Lakeland snapped a four-match losing streak and improved to 4-6 overall with the win in the first meetings between the teams since 2017.

The Muskies were in control almost the entire way with an effective all-around effort that included a .346 hitting percentage with 36 kills and just nine errors in 78 attacks. Lakeland also served eight aces, including four from Colin Putchinski (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.), and added a 5-1 advantage in blocks for the match.

The Muskies hit .476 (12 kills, two errors) in the first set and .412 (17 kills, three errors in the third set). The biggest challenges from Greenville (2-3 overall) came in the second set, when the Panthers led 6-5 before Lakeland scored three straight points and never trailed again in the set, and again in the third when Greenville was tied as late as 15-15 in the set.

Donohue posted 10 kills with one error in 15 attacks for a .600 hitting percentage and also added three block assists from his middle blocker position . Eli Weinrich (Sr.-Mequon, Wis.) also delivered eight kills and Putchinski and Jordan Davis-Troller (Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) added six kills each

Chase Anderson (Sr.-Hartford, Wis.) also posted 30 assists and Luke Schultz (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.) added 10 digs.

Tyrone Ealy led Greenville with 10 kills and John Heater posted 28 assists and nine digs. The Panthers hit .096 as a team with 30 kills and 22 errors.

The Muskies continue their swing to the south when they take on Westminster (Mo.) College on Friday in a match starting at noon in Fulton, Mo.
