RIPON, Wis. –
Maleigha Kovalaske (
Jr.-Ripon, Wis.) finished with double-digit kills in all four matches and the Lakeland University women's volleyball finished an undefeated run in the Ripon College Classic Friday and Saturday.
The Muskies' run through the tourney included three 3-0 sweeps, including a 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 win over Macalester (Minn.) College and a 25-5, 25-11, 25-15 rout of Ripon to conclude Saturday. Lakeland also defeated Concordia College Moorhead (Minn.) 18-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-19 to open the event and added a 25-18, 25-23, 25-19 win over Martin Luther (Minn.) College on Friday.
The Muskies finished winning their final 12 sets after losing the opener against Concordia Moorhead on Friday. Lakeland also went 4-0 in a tourney for the first time since opening the season with four wins in its own home tourney to open the 2018 season.
Kovalaske finished with 48 kills over the four matches, including 13 kills each against Concordia Moorhead and Ripon. She also added a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs against Macalester and totaled 33 digs for the tourney.
Samya Hughes (
So.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) also totaled 40 kills over the four matches, including a high of 15 in the four-set grind against Concordia Moorhead.
Faith Baker (
Jr.-Verona, Ill.) added 27 kills and hit .404 for the weekend with just six errors in 52 attacks.
Ryan Figi (
Sr.-Hartland, Wis.) finished with 55 digs over the tourney, with a high of 25 digs against Concordia Moorhead.
Katie Westerholm (
Fr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) and
Sydney Gay (
Jr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) shared setting duties with Westerholm totaling 72 assists plus 33 digs and nine service aces-five against Ripon-and Gay adding 56 assists.
Lakeland next travels to Oshkosh on Wednesday for a doubleheader, first facing the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 5 p.m. and then taking on defending NCAA Division III champion and top-ranked UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
