Disciplinary Policy
Purpose: The Student-Athlete Code of Conduct and Discipline Policy underscores the Athletics Department's commitment to community and citizenship.
Policy: The Lakeland University Athletics Department believes that participation in intercollegiate athletics is a privilege, not a right. The opportunity to represent Lakeland in athletic competition deserves respect. In addition, the behavior and conduct of our student-athletes, as well as the Athletics Department's response to inappropriate behavior, contributes to the public's image and impression of Lakeland University. The Athletics Department must uphold the integrity and values of Lakeland University.
The Lakeland University Athletics Department will be following the Lakeland University Student Handbook, and the Director of Athletics will be part of the Conduct Process within the Student Affairs Office. Please refer to the latest University Student Handbook for process and conduct grid actions.
This policy does not cover individual team rules as established by the Head Coach of each sport. The Head Coach, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics, will develop team rules and policies that promote Lakeland University student-athletes as positive role models within our academic and athletic communities. Discipline handed down by Head Coaches may be more severe than those outlined in this policy. At no time does a student ever have a right to be on the team or to playing time. The Head Coach for each program will determine all playing time and participation within their team.
For this policy, suspension from the team means that the student-athlete may not represent the team at school-organized events, nor may they compete or travel with any of the Athletic Department teams. However, suspended student-athletes may, with the approval of the Head Coach and Athletic Director, attend team meetings, retain privileges with the Athletic Training Room, and use Weight Training as outlined by team rules. Additionally, suspended students are expected to attend all practices unless otherwise instructed by the Head Coach.
