2025: As a freshman pitched in seven games, starting all seven… Posted a 2-3 record with a 6.96 earned run average… In 32 1/3 innings allowed 40 hits and 31 runs (25 earned) with 21 strikeouts and 20 walks… Earned the win in his collegiate debut, throwing five innings and allowing two hits and one unearned run with four strikeouts against Utica (N.Y.) March 12… Also won his second start, throwing 5 1/3 against Concordia Wisconsin on March 26 and allowing five hits and one run with five strikeouts… Played in one game in the field, batting 3-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases against Alfred (N.Y.) March 13… Recipient of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.

High School: Three-year letter winner on baseball team and also lettered two years in volleyball… All-county honorable mention… Student council vice president and member of National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Brent & Sue Backus and has one sister (Sara)… Majoring in business administration.
