Justin Jurek is in his first year as a graduate assistant coach with the Lakeland baseball program.
Jurek joins the Muskies this year after serving as an assistant coach at Mid-Michigan Community College last year in Harrison, Mich. He assisted in the start-up of a first-year program that brought in more than 30 student-athletes for its first season.
Jurek also has coached the Gladstone Indians Post 71 American Legion team in his hometown of Gladstone, Mich., the past four summers. He has led the Indians to a 79-32 overall record and three consecutive Class A district and state championships. Eleven of his former players went on to compete at the NCAA or NJCAA levels.
Jurek played collegiately at Delta Community College in Bay County, Mich., where he was named an NJCAA All-Region XII pitcher as a sophomore and also won the region Gold Glove for pitchers. He is a graduate of Gladstone High School and his sister Brittany is a former Lakeland softball and women’s tennis athlete and is currently the Muskies’ head women’s tennis coach and an assistant with the softball team.
